Start a Purpose Project

A little over a year ago, I was depressed. My business went bankrupt, I was broke, and I had nothing to look forward to. I felt purposeless.

After a few cloudy months, I decided to start Stoic Reflections. I really needed something to work on, and I didn't care what.

I didn’t know much about Stoic philosophy, but I spent a lot of time on instagram, and recently discovered Stoicism. So why not start a philosophy page on instagram, I thought.

12 months later, there are 300,000 amazing people who fell in love with Stoicism just as I did not too long ago. Apart form that, life’s never been better.

I’ve learned a lot about what it takes a grow, both online and off. Mostly that discipline and consistency are almost all that matters. But looking back, there was one thing that had the most impact - the choice that lead to the most growth.

Starting a Purpose Project.

Some would call it a passion project, but I refer to it purpose project, you'll see why.

Stoic Reflections, for me, is the definition of a Purpose Project.

It's something to work on daily that gives me a reason to wake up in the morning. It's a project that gives me purpose.

If purpose is what you’re lacking, having a project to work on, I believe, is the ultimate way to find it.

It doesn’t have to make you money. It might even cost you some. You just need to find something that you can add to, little by little, every single day. By doing so, you’ll quickly discover what purpose feels like.

And no, you don’t need a masterplan to get started.

When I began Stoic Reflections, there was no plan. The only plan was to do something, every single day. I just needed to feel purpose - to have a reason to wake up in the morning. And as long as someone, somewhere, would see my post and get some value out of it, I’d have enough motivation to continue.

It’s definitely cost me more than I’ve earned (I’m not interested in promoting your t-shirt on my page, sorry), but I’ve never felt happier. Having something to work on daily quickly dragged me out of a depressed state and launched me into one of fulfillment.

When you know that you might improve someones day, all while growing your knowledge and skills, life gets brighter.

Deciding on a project to start may seem difficult, but it all comes down to following your curiosity.

You don’t need to have unique skills to start working on something, and you don’t need a fancy education to follow your curiosity. In fact, I’m not a graphic designer, nor a philosopher, and I actually dropped out of school.

If I let any of that hold me back, Stoic Reflections wouldn’t exist, and I’d still be sitting around feeling purposeless. I was curious about Stoicism, so I ran with it. I didn't think twice.

Thanks to the internet, it’s never been easier to funnel your curiosities into a purpose project. If you put in the work and remain disciplined, not only will you feel purposeful, you’ll improve your skills, gain new knowledge, and if you’re lucky, you may even improve the lives of others.

If you’re not currently working on a Purpose Project, I highly recommend that you consider starting one.

I promise you’ll be glad you did. I know I am.
